Canada to reopen international borders for travellers from August 9, 2021
The best news of the year! The Canadian Federal Government today announced the next steps to easing international and USA border restrictions for fully vaccinated leisure travellers.
From August 9, 2021, the first stage for fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents planning leisure travel, will be permitted to cross the border, to enter Canada. Provided these travellers are fully vaccinated, there is no requirement to quarantine at all upon entry into Canada.
From September 7, 2021, Canada’s rollout plans look to further ease travel restrictions, welcoming any international traveller to Canada. Again, only eligible arrivals will be allowed entry, on the proviso, they are fully vaccinated, and the mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app.
The details. For fully vaccinated travellers arriving into Canada:
All airlines will require proof of vaccination with one of the approved vaccinations (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson) via the ArriveCAn portal and a negative molecular COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Canada.
All travellers with proof of full vaccination by one of the approved vaccinations will be allowed entrance to Canada without 14-day quarantine
All arriving travellers must show proof of a negative COVID-19 molecular test prior to leaving their country of origin (this can be via the ArrivaCAN portal prior to boarding your flight).
Randomized COVID-19 molecular testing will be performed at the airport upon fully vaccinated travellers (all partially or unvaccinated travellers will be tested without exception).
For partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers arriving into Canada:
All airlines will require proof of partial vaccination with one of the approved vaccinations (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra Zeneca and Johnson & Johnson) via the ArriveCAn portal and a negative molecular COVID-19 test before boarding a flight to Canada.
All travellers without proof of vaccination, or proof of only partial vaccination be allowed entrance to Canada, but must quarantine for 14 days, (including showing quarantine plan along with all pre-requirement details).
All partially or unvaccinated travellers will be tested upon arrival at the airport without exception and must test negative. After the test, passengers must proceed directly to their quarantine location for a 14 day period and submit to additional testing. In addition to international airports in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal, international arrivals will be expanded to include Halifax, Quebec City, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton airports.
Finally the news we’ve been eagerly awaiting. To know we can start to plan and help our international ski clients itching to click back into their skis and boards for winter 2021/22 season, and hear the quiet swoosh of powder snow underfoot. Oh yes! Let it snow, and let’s go !!
