Air Canada to fly Brisbane-Vancouver with Boeing 787 from June 2016

Air Canada will begin direct Boeing 787 flights between Vancouver and Brisbane from June 2016. The non-stop service will initially run three days a week, although Air Canada says it intends to boost this to the more desirable daily schedule “subject to obtaining the necessary government approvals”.

Beginning on June 17 2016, flight AC35 will leave Vancouver at 11.45pm every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, to reach Brisbane at 7.15am two days later.

The AC36 return leg will be wheels up from Brisbane at 10.40am on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday, arriving into Vancouver at 7.15am the same day.

The service would cut the travel time between the two cities by five hours.

Air Canada chief executive Calin Rovinescu said the new Brisbane route was part of the airline’s strategic international expansion and would complement its daily service to Sydney.

“The new Brisbane route increases our presence in the Asia-Pacific market at a time when trade and travel in the region and between North America is growing, with a further boost expected from the Trans-Pacific Partnership now under negotiation,” he said.

“The operating economics of the Dreamliner together with the support from the Queensland government and Brisbane Airport have enabled us to launch the only year-round flights between Brisbane and Canada.”
