Every parent knows the secret to a successful ski vacation is choosing a resort that does the hard work for you. By opting for a destination that knows what children will love, it makes for happy little ones – and happy little ones makes for happy parents too!

Big White is known as Canada’s favourite family resort, and for good reason. From the moment you arrive on the slopes to when you depart, the experience has been carefully curated to maximize the fun for families.

From the ski-in, ski-out accommodation options to be found on the mountain, to the huge variety of restaurants and activities; here’s why kids, and parents, will both love Big White…

The kids centre

The Big White Kids Centre was once voted “the best place to be abandoned by your parents” by Ski Canada magazine – so you know it’s going to be the kind of place where kids are happily dropped off.

Why kids love it: Forget the skiing and snowboarding – the centre has a rock climbing wall and amazing activities, including after-hours movie nights. Children also get a Flaik GPS tag to wear while they’re skiing, so they can go home and track their adventures on the mountain at the end of the day!

Why parents love it: There’s a variety of lesson options available at the world-class ski school, including all-day options where little ones will get a hot lunch. A day care program is also available for younger children, with options of adding lessons if your child is three or over.

Plus, if children are registered and already have ski or board basics, Big White’s instructors will come to your hotel or condo to pick up your kids and drop them off at the end of the day for a small charge. Oh so easy, stress free, and more time for you to enjoy in your private hot tub.

The activities

The Adventure Centre in Happy Valley is jam-packed with kid-friendly activities. Take your pick – from tubing to ice-climbing, dog-sledding, horse sleigh rides, snow-shoeing, ice skating and so much more.

Why kids love it: Adventure is the name of the game, and there are enough activities for something different to do every day of your holiday.

Why parents love it: There’s a huge focus on safety – even the snowmobiling is geared towards keeping little ones engaged yet safe, with both miniature snowmobiles available for rent and family snowmobiling tours on offer.

Cruz the Blues

There are plenty of events that are scattered through the Big White events calendar during the season, but Cruz the Blues is an all-time family favourite, and runs on several weekends so that you can be sure to catch it during your visit.

Why kids love it: There’s nothing but fun to be found with Cruz the Blues! You collect a boarding pass from the Concierge Desk and hunt down every blue run on the mountain in two days, with the chance to head home with some amazing prizes.

Why parents love it: It brings the family together with the ultimate activity, and it’s free!

The night skiing

Big White is incredible with their night skiing offering, keeping the Bullet Chair and Plaza Chair running every night from Tuesday through to Saturday.

Why kids love it: They can keep honing the skills that they learned during the day. For teens who love the park, the Telus Park Chair also spins on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Why parents love it: It’s the perfect activity for children who still have energy to burn at the end of the day. $10 Friday nights are also a steal of a deal for the whole family, with $10 rentals, beginner lessons, tickets, dinner and even tubing. Perfect for those who want to switch it up for a night and go from skiing to snowboarding, or even try out snow blading!

Carnival night – and more!

One word for you: carnival. Big White hosts carnival night every Thursday and Saturday at the Village Centre Mall.

Why kids love it: There’s a bouncy castle, free popcorn, free cotton candy, carnival games, face painting and you might even spot the Loose Moose.

Why parents love it: You can then take the children down to Moose Lounge to sip on an après beverage, eat a family-sized nachos and warm up by the bonfire with a free hot chocolate. On Saturdays, there’s also a fireworks display to enjoy.

For the health and safety of all guests, the resort adheres to all Health Orders issued by the BC Provincial Health Department. Activities and events are subject to these rules at all times.
